No Mandate

Bush does not have a mandate. He is a wartime president and yet he received the lowest margin of victory for a second-term President since 1916. Further, more people voted against him than any other incumbent in history.

A lot has been made over Bush' politcal capital, however much a 2% vote differential gets him. However, Bush had a lot more than poltical capital after 9/11. He had the entire country ready to rally behind him, and almost the whole world's sympathy. Rather than use that goodwill towards uniting the country and pursuing a bipartisan agenda, he wasted it by becoming one of the most divisive Presidents in modern history. No matter how much capital the pundits proclaim Bush to have, it pales in comparison to the goodwill he had after 9/11. Just as Bush squandered the goodwill after 9/11, so too will he squander it again.

Mason, I hope you do not mind that I copied your post about NO Mandate in my local paper. It pointed out what so many here do not even realize. They (locals) still think Bush won by a landslide! I would have asked you in advance but being new to this blog- Im not sure how or if I can contact you. I also enjoyed reading your other comments, and I am trying to change my approach to educating people on the issues ; rather than arguing and fighting every issue point by point. Now I realize, I have let them frame the issues at times - when I should be changing the arguement completely or even dismissing some of them. Please take a peek at my local papers "Sound-Off" section. I am located in Central West Florida (Citrus County-where FL bends)and you will see what ignorance and propaganda I have been fighting for two years now. I do not sign my posts because of retaliation(which is common here in Klan country). There are some crazy characters there. There are only two that I ever agree with or support and they are Fisherman(jew), and Schrader(athiest)and everyone else on there are typical of the entire state of Florida. I invite all of you to check www.chronicleonline.com Sound-Off section. My compadres and I could use a little help and a new approach. Thankyou~
